Cruising

Why Cruise Lake Guntersville?

With over 107 square miles of water and nearly 75 miles of navigable lake, Lake Guntersville offers endless opportunities for relaxed day sails, destination cruises, and overnight adventures. There’s always somewhere new to explore, or a favorite spot worth visiting again.

Located directly on the Tennessee River, Browns Creek Sailing Association cruisers have the unique ability to sail not only across the lake, but downriver toward the Gulf of Mexico or upriver as far as imagination, time, and planning allow.

Scenic Destinations & Wildlife

Cruising on Lake Guntersville means sailing through some of the most scenic waters in the region. Along the way, it’s common to see:

  • Bald eagles and white pelicans in the winter

  • Great blue herons in the summer

  • A wide variety of ducks and geese year-round

Quiet coves, wooded shorelines, and protected anchorages make the lake especially well suited for overnight anchoring and weekend cruising.

Favorite Club Cruise Spots

Over the years, BCSA members have developed a list of favorite destinations, including:

  • Goat Island — a popular overnight anchorage

  • Short Creek — another go-to for relaxed overnight stays

  • Shell Island — AKA Party Cove

  • City Harbor — For those times your look for entertainment

And a few others that we keep as our secret 😉

The Bat Cave Cruise

A longtime fall favorite is the annual cruise to Hambrick Bat Cave. Each evening around dusk, approximately 60,000 gray bats emerge from the cave in a remarkable natural display. It’s one of the most unique sights on the river—and a must-do cruise that BCSA schedules every year.
